Tech screws," also commonly called "Tek screws," are a type of self-drilling screw used to fasten materials like metal and wood together without the need to pre-drill a pilot hole, making them ideal for applications like metal roofing, construction projects, cladding, and attaching metal components to wood, as they can drill and tap threads simultaneously in one operation; essentially combining the functions of a drill bit and a screw.

We stock the most commonly used sizes for HVAC applications (most popular Head type is Hex Head but sometimes Pan Head is requested), available in Zinc Plated, Galvanised or Stainless Steel with or without Neoprene Washer for Metal and Wood.

Key points about Tek screws:
  • Self-drilling feature:
The main characteristic of a Tek screw is its drill-like tip, which allows it to cut its own hole in the material it is being screwed into.

  • Versatile applications:
They are used in a wide range of construction scenarios, including metal-to-metal, metal-to-wood, and roofing applications.

  • Time-saving benefit:
By eliminating the need for pre-drilling, Tek screws significantly speed up fastening processes.

  • Common names:
While "Tek screw" is the most widely used term, they are also sometimes called "self-drilling screws" or "metal screws".

We also stock other commonly used fasteners used in the HVAC industry ie. Set Screws, Nuts, Bolts, Washers, Threaded Rod, Base Plates, Joiners & Anchors.

Tek screws with neo washers are used to attach thin sheet metal to wood or metal frames. They are also known as self-drilling screws.

How they work:
  • Tek screws drill their own holes, so you don't need to pre-drill

  • They can be used for light and heavy-duty screwing

  • They can be used to attach wood, metal, and composite pieces together

Benefits:

  • Durability: Tek screws are durable and resistant to corrosion
  • Efficiency: Tek screws can improve efficiency and productivity because you don't need to spend time drilling holes
Applications:
  • Metal to metal: Tek screws can be used to fix thick steel purlins and hot rolled steel

  • Wood to metal: Tek screws can be used to attach wood to metal

  • Sheet to sheet: Tek screws can be used to attach sheet metal to sheet metal

  • Sheet to steel: Tek screws can be used to attach sheet metal to steel

  • Timber to steel: Tek screws can be used to attach timber to steel
