Washers are thin, disc-shaped plates used to distribute the load of a fastener, such as a bolt or nut. They can also protect surfaces and prevent loosening. 

Uses of Washers:
  • Distribute load: Spread the load of a fastener over a larger area to prevent damage to the material.

  • Protect surfaces: Prevent the fastener from damaging the surface it's attached to.

  • Reduce friction: Create a smooth surface to reduce the chance of loosening.

  • Absorb vibrations: Maintain a tight connection when securing objects that vibrate or move.

  • Prevent corrosion: Help prevent galvanic corrosion, especially when using steel screws on aluminium surfaces. 

Types of Washers: 

There are several types of washers, including flat washers, lock washers, spring washers, and wave washers. The type of washer used depends on the application and the properties of the materials involved.
